#Project365; Day 333. Magnificent Gargoyle Yew.

I’ve been to Newlands Corner a couple of times recently, in search of the hawfinches that have been regularly sighted there since the autumn. No luck on the hawfinches as yet, unfortunately, but today I discovered that there are many veteran and ancient yew trees there. They are spectacular, and I shall be going back to photograph them in better light. Here’s a not-great photo of one, though, which looks to me like it has the most fabulous dragon/dog gargoyle roaring from the trunk.

  1. What an incredible tree – it looks very old, Was there a church in the vicinity, as yews were always planted near a church, or monastery, or other religious building.
