#Project365; Day 125. Enormous bumblebee.

This enormous bumblebee made a striking sight completely covered in pollen from the Passiflora. I think she must be a queen Bombus terrestris, or Buff-tailed bumblebee. The design of the pollen-laden anthers, facing down like big pads, is very effective in ensuring the bees get thoroughly covered whilst foraging.

  1. The buff tailed bumbles seem to be the fittest bumbles. The queens look powerful and more than ready to start a colony. I think some nest through the winter here and perhaps even in the south of the U.K. Amelia
