Surrey365; Day 17. Dark edged bee fly.

The garden is, quite literally, buzzing with activity at the moment. There are bees (and wasps) everywhere, feeding on the spring flowers. I saw this ‘bee’ zipping about and hovering in front of flowers to feed, and when it landed to sun itself on the wildlife stack, I snapped some pics. It was quickly apparent that it’s not a bee at all, but a bee mimic. Its beautiful black and white wings are really striking. That terrifyingly long spike emanating from its head is its proboscis (tongue). 🙂
