Thanks, Lucy, a mystery cleared up. I can never remember what those little wasp things are called. I’ve dragged the pic out (without permission, sorry) and labelled it for future ref. RH
You’re welcome to it, RH – you can have a larger version if you’d like. It took me a while to identify it, and it might be the almost identical Ammophila pubescens – the heath sand wasp. The only discernible difference, apparently, is that it’s a bit smaller and doesn’t have a slight blue blush to the black tail.
