Such a fabulous name! They put me in mind of breasts (maybe post breastfeeding ones in the third picture…) and of a googley-eyed face in the first. They are actually Collared Earthstars – Geastrum triplex – our most common type of Earthstar. I’ve only ever seen them twice though, so this was a treat.

  1. Those are extraordinary (whatever they passingly resemble!). Are they the fungi that suddenly release all their spores in a single puff through the ‘chimney’? Oh! I could look at Wiki, I now realise. Sorry to bother you. RH
