Sundew

These fascinating carnivorous plants (Drosera spp.) thrive where the acidic soil is not sufficient to support the nutrients that a plant needs to survive. They are forced to supplement their diet with a bit of meat, the easiest form of that being flies gullible enough to fly into the centre of their attractively baited ‘flowers’. Their sticky, mucilaginous centres lure unsuspecting insects in and then keep them there to digest and add to their nutritional complement.
