Green Tiger Beetle

I photographed this Green Tiger Beetle’s much rarer cousin, the Heath Tiger Beetle, a while ago. Whilst this is much commoner, it’s no less beautiful I think (in fact more so). Those scythe-like jaws and fast speed (as I found out while trying to photograph it) make it a formidable predator.

  1. Great set of photos Lucy. I’ve seen this little fella a couple of times at Bentley Wood in Wiltshire. But I’ve not been able to get a decent shot. The specimens I’ve seen have been a darker green and the spots smaller and fainter. The legs though are a fantastic metallic copper/claret and it has a pretty impressive set of jaws.
