Cinnabar Moth
This is always a treat to see; the brightly coloured day-flying Cinnabar Moth. They’re useful too, their larvae feed on the poisonous (and a serious danger to cattle and horses) plant ragwort.

We have common ragwort around here, but I have never seen this moth or its larva. I’ll start looking a little closer. It is a beautiful moth.
Thanks Steve, the caterpillars are quite striking too; black and yellow/orange stripes.
wow…i like the red
Thank you, it’s very striking, isn’t it!
Cool shot of this colorful guy in a beautiful setting!
Thanks for looking Phil, glad you like it.
He can now take off his winter coat. In the Netherlands we go to 25-30 degrees in the coming days.
It is very very hot here in the UK today too Charles. A day for sitting in the shade!
That is a great shot. I can see the sun glinting on its wings.
Thanks Amelia, he’s very smart isn’t he!
Love these. Great photo, Lucy – hard to get the backs of the wings (the fringe?) so sharp. RH
Thank you RH! 🙂
