Caterpillar out for a winter walk

I was surprised to see this little fella out and about in December. According to a knowledgeable poster on the Wild About Britain forum, he’s a Norther Eggar Moth caterpillar. The moss is Polytrichum piliferum – these gorgeously coloured spikes are the inflorescences, or flowers.
