My favourite place
Thursley. I love it. It’s my favourite place to walk and I never get tired of it – it has such a variety of habitats. There’s mature heathland, burnt and regenerated heathland with amazing mosses and lichen, mature woodland and plenty of fungi. It’s the best example of rare wet heathland (mire) in the southeast and attracts birders from far afield – one of them kindly showed me a great grey shrike through his telescope today.
Today was the most glorious day, and my favourite bit of Thursley on days like this is the boardwalked wetland area. The quality of the light was just glorious. I feel so lucky to live near somewhere so beautiful.
