Scary beastie
Saw this cute little beetle yesterday and took a few shots of him. On closer examination though, I think he could do with a shave; he’s a hairy scary wee beastie!

He is indeed a hairy beastie! What is he?
I’m not sure but will look him up and let you know if I can!
What a shiny fellow, Lucy. 🙂
He certainly is, Mike!
He is a shiny critter!
He is, Phil, and he was happy to sit there and be photographed, too.
He reminds me of the rose chafers and the May bugsI have found in my garden , perhaps he is related.
I know what you mean Amelia – his antennae are very like a may bug, aren’t they. I’ll see if I can identify him.
Brilliant photos! I’ve taken some on holiday of a moth with just a normal digital camera so not as close or detailed as yours but its amazing what you can see from the photos that you don’t see with the naked eye.
Thank you for your kind comment! My camera is just a normal digital one too (Panasonic Lumix T20) but it’s got quite a good macro setting – it will focus down to 5cm away. I’d rather put my camera 5cm away from an insect than put my eyes that close, so it’s good to see the detail when I look at the photos. 🙂
