Autumn coloured caterpillar

This big beastie was crawling around at Puttenham. It’s a fox moth caterpillar, which I’ve photographed before but never seen one with such vivid colours. It looked so soft and silky that I was tempted to stroke it. As it curled up in a ball as soon as it realised we were there, though, I thought stroking it might be rather mean.
